powerofthepress A picnic. She'd mentioned that amongst her litany of things to do while dating, and what Lois wanted, Lois got. At least in this instance. Clark had spent two hours of his day off putting together a basket of food he'd cooked including chicken, garlic bread, potato salad, a bottle of wine, two glasses, a picnic blanket, and other odds and ends that might be needed on such an outing before dressing in a rather subdued outfit; navy sweater, jeans, boots. Nothing that would mark him as anything but ordinary.
He'd remembered to call ahead as well, so that things wouldn't run too late, and picked her up almost on schedule before driving up into the hills, away from any known meteor rock deposits. Once a suitable location had been found, they'd unpacked the truck and spent a nice hour just eating, Clark happily listening to how Lois' week had gone, and occasionally making a comment to prove he was paying attention. And then she reached for the wine, an unspoken signal that it was time to get serious. "Lois? I, ah, might have had an ulterior motive for getting you up here alone."
... That sounded better in his head.
